Wairere Falls 153 meters fault line drop

Wairere Falls Track: North Island Tallest Waterfall | 135m Fault Line

The Wairere Falls Track is a 3-hour return track to the tallest waterfall in the North Island, New Zealand.

Wairere Falls

Falling down from the impressive wall of escarpment created by the fault line, the 153 meters tall Wairere Falls is a nature’s marvel.

Wairere Falls Lower Lookout

The trailhead starts from Wairere Falls Track Carpark and it takes around 30-45 minutes to reach Wairere Falls Lower Lookout point. This involves steady incline on an undulating track over moss-covered rocks and tree roots. The track also passes through rockfall areas, so follow the signage and move quickly through these sections. Avoid walking this track during or after a heavy rain or severe weather conditions.

Wairere Falls top

Beyond the lookout platform, the track begins to get much steeper towards the top of Wairere Falls. It takes around an hour or more to reach the top from the lower falls lookout point.

Wairere Falls Upper Lookout

Do not go to the edge of the waterfall, a slip can be a deadly long fall to the bottom. This photo is captured from the platform built to view the waterfall’s edge safely.

On drier days, the water level is low enough to step on dry paths to cross the falls river. However, stay away from the waterfall’s edge, a little bit of moss can make even the dry path slippery. A person has recently died being swept down the Wairere Falls.

The International Seat Of Peace Paddock 66

A short side trip between the track from the car park to the lower lookout point takes you to the The International Seat of Peace. It has a bench that overlooks the green farm hills.

*Captain Planet passing by* Remember, please take care of our environment, and please don’t destroy the Nature. Leave no trash behind and take back only photos and memories (and also some trash if you can). Walk on the designated path and stay in the middle as much as you can, so that the exposed soil doesn’t spread/corrode further. BE ONE WITH NATURE *flies away*
