Cape Peron Shoalwater Islands Marine Park

Cape Peron, Shoalwater Islands Marine Park | Rockingham, Perth

Surrounded by the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, Cape Peron (also known as Point Peron) in Rockingham of Western Australia is a beautiful nature spot to enjoy. Cape Peron features one of the best beaches ideal for safe swimming and snorkeling on the west coast. Point Peron and Rockingham Beach are just around 50 minutes drive from Perth, or around 1 hour and 15 minutes by public transport (a good way to make use of Transperth’s Sundays free trains and buses!).

The calm and transparent waters of the beaches at the north side of Cape Peron (closest to Cape Peron Car Park East) are ideal spots to take a relaxing swim. The waves are gentle thanks to the cape acting as a natural barrier, and the shallow seabed deepens gradually. Soft sand and clear beach? What more could we ask for!

Cape Peron Lookout

At the south side of Point Peron is the Cape Peron Lookout. Reefs surround this stretch of the cape, and it’s a good place to spot underwater marine life from the high ground. A coworker of mine who’s living in Rockingham frequents this place all the time, and most of the time he could spot hammerhead sharks feeding among the reefs!

Walking along the rugged beach on the west side, just north of the lookout, there are some unique rock/beach formations along the shoreline.
