John Forrest National Park Little Eagle Walk Plus Two Waterfalls Trails

John Forrest National Park: Falls & Little Eagle Walk + Hovea Falls

John Forrest National Park is one of Western Australia’s oldest conservation areas. About a 30-minute drive from Perth, John Forrest National Park offers multiple hiking trails, with two waterfalls that flow in winter. Park entry fees apply for vehicles that enter John Forrest National Park: $17 per standard vehicle (≤12 occupants), $8 per large vehicle (>12 occupants), and $10 per motorcycle. I took public transports to John Forrest National Park (35 minutes walk from bus stop to the park entrance included), so my entry is free.

On my trip, I combined parts of National Park Falls Walk Trail and Little Eagle Walk Trail, plus a little side trips to the two waterfalls, and made it a loop back to the entrance. I used OutdoorActive to navigate the trail map; you may also refer to TrailsWA for the different trails.

(+41)11.07am: Doing the mixed trails loop in clockwise direction, I first walked the National Park Falls Walk Trail and arrived at the National Park Falls. The waterfall was bone-dry in the summer. The trail joins Little Eagle Walk Trail shortly after the waterfall.

Little Eagle Walk Trail - A Shortened Version Of Eagle View Walk

(+27)11.34am: Continuing on Little Eagle Walk Trail, which is a smaller part of Eagle View Walk, I walked past these unique rock formations just before reaching the viewpoint.

John Forrest National Park Eagle View Walk Viewpoint

(+3)11.37am: At the viewpoint of Eagle View Walk Trail. This trail was named after a wedgetail eagle’s nest that could be seen from here. Unfortunately, the nest was destroyed in a bushfire in 1997.

(+5)11.43am: Not long after the viewpoint, I turned right at the split path that separates Little Eagle Walk from the Eagle View Walk.

(+69)1.18pm: Eventually, the Little Eagle Walk rejoins Eagle View Walk, and I took the additional trail to reach Hovea Falls.

John Forrest National Park Hovea Falls dried waterfall

Because it is summer, Hovea Falls dried out without a trace of water. The waterfalls and rivers in these areas usually flow only in the winter.

(+38)1.56pm: On the way back from the entrance to the bus stop, I took a section of Glen Brook Trail instead of the main road, because it is shady and much cooler than walking on tarmac road. Along the way, I walked past this tempting water reservoir, but going into the water is prohibited.

Leave no trash behind and take back only photos and memories (and also some trash if you can). Walk on the designated path and stay in the middle as much as you can, so that the exposed soil doesn’t spread/corrode further. BE ONE WITH NATURE *flies away*
