The Rocky Pool Walk is a popular natural swimming hole at Kalamunda National Park, 30km from Perth (reachable by public transport). The water flows during the wet winter months, but dries up in the summer. I visited this place during the summer, so there wasn’t much water left to take a dip.
Kalamunda National Park
Dropping from the bus near Coles Kalamunda, I entered via Bibbulmun Track Northern Terminus into Kalamunda National Park. Bibbulmun Track is an over 1000km long-distance walking trail from Kalamunda to Albany.
Rocky Pool Walk
The Rocky Pool Walk is a loop walk (~1.5 hours, view map). It takes around 30 minutes or less to reach the natural swimming hole of Rocky Pool (counter-clockwise of the loop). The trail is clear and passes along some interesting natural rock structures.
The walk down to the Ricky Pool is a little steep with loose rocks, but it’s short and not too difficult to manage.
With just a little water hole left, most of the area was already dried up by early summer.
Continuing the loop, I passed by another scenic rock structure. Most visitors skip the loop and head back via the same trail after the stop at the Rocky Pool, as the loop goes longer and there is some good amount of inclination to tackle.
A random eye-catching plant.
While walking on the trail, I spotted what I believe is a kangaroo tick.
