In August, to make sure that registered guides are well-trained and prepared for the job, guides underwent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/selangorjournal.my\/2022\/03\/selangor-forestry-dept-organises-mountain-guide-course-limited-to-100-participants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a week-long training<\/a>\u00a0in Kuala Kubu Bharu which included basic first aid training and rescue.<br \/>This page covers the general and some specific guidelines on finding and applying for the service of a mountain guide registered with the Selangor Forestry Department, based on my first-hand experience and other sources.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-345c8abc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"345c8abc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why Use a Mountain Guide?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d331701 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d331701\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>For seasoned hikers this may seem like an unexpected financial and energy cost, but we need to understand the reasoning behind this new rule:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-54500172 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"54500172\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">For our health and safety:<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-90cbfbe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"90cbfbe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Some trails that require the use of a guide are day-long hikes that have a cutoff period (eg. you have to summit and return by sunset). Guides play an important role in ensuring everyone returns before the cutoff time. <\/li><li>Guides are trained to recognise and manage risky situations. Guides are equipped with walkie-talkies to communicate with each other to \u2018sweep\u2019 those who have a slower pace. This ensures no one accidentally injures themselves in the rush to keep up. <\/li><li>There are irresponsible parties who run private hiking trips for profit-making. They do not actually have the authority but claim to have permits and relevant experience.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-94845f7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"94845f7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">For an enjoyable journey:<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ee79e4c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ee79e4c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Guides know which trails are closed for maintenance or due to natural disasters (eg. landslides or fallen trees). You may also put up a Facebook post for the latter.<\/p><p>New: MGP Selangor now has created a <a href=\"https:\/\/mgpselangor.my\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a> for your convenient. You can find information and locations of hiking spots under Selangor forestry, and the standard mountain guide rate card for all of the MGP-required hikes.<\/p><p>The ratio of guide to hiker is 1:7. It is best to gather your hiking friends and decide on the hiking trail and date before searching for a guide. If you do not have a group of 7, you may still approach the guide &#8211; if they have any other smaller groups that are interested in hiking the same trail, they will recommend joining the groups together.<\/p><p>Guide fees differ depending on the mountain (etc. RM250 for<a href=\"https:\/\/meowtainpeople.com\/zh\/bukit-kutu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Bukit Kutu,<\/a> RM400 for <a href=\"https:\/\/meowtainpeople.com\/zh\/gunung-nuang-via-pangsun-vs-janda-baik\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gunung Nuang)<\/a>.<\/p><p>After confirming your slot, the guide will usually communicate via your \u2018team leader\u2019 or open WhatsApp group with the group, or. We highly recommend you to invite your guide to have a meal with you and your group!<\/p><p>We heard that the Selangor State Forestry Department plans to conduct an evaluation of the guides and the guide process in September 2023. To do this, they are releasing a feedback form to gauge hikers\u2019 experience with guides during the trip.
