Pre-Eclipse visit to the unreal-looking blue lake at Tasik Biru, Kangkar Pulai
Tasik Biru Johor: A few days before the solar eclipse, we were preparing for our hike to Mount Pulai in Johor and we found out about a mysterious blue lake located at the other side of the hill.
Looking through the photos from the web, the color of the lake was so unreal so we decided to see it with our own eyes. We went there after our hike to Mount Pulai after lunch, before checking in to Pontian Happiness Homestay.
How to reach Tasik Biru
Quick Walkthrough
Detailed Walkthrough
Road to Tasik Biru
2.18pm: We drove to Jalan Pulai Mesra 20 and enter the road here.
Drive all the way to the end and turn left (do not turn right as it is a quarry site).
Note: It is a construction/quarry site so the roads are unpaved and mostly made out of dirt and loose rocks so it would irritate the wheels a little.
(+8)2.26pm: Once you turned left, just keep following the road until you see a huge flat ground on your right. You can park your car at the side of the road.
Hike to Tasik Biru
(+2)2.28pm: Walk to the huge flat area toward the boom barrier. There was a “No Trespassing” signboard here but we have obtained permission from the guard and construction workers in the area to visit the blue lake.
(+1)2.29pm: Right after passing the boom barrier, take the path to the right and keep following it.
(+3)2.32pm: Soon, you’ll arrive to the incline path to reach the first checkpoint to view the blue lake. The path was quite steep but there were steps(tree roots and dirt stairs) and rope to assist the climb.
(+2)2.35pm: Very quickly, we reached the first checkpoint to view the lake.
Blue Lake / Tasik Biru Johor
Take a look at this magnificent blue tone of the lake! Maybe this is the main source of blue mouthwash haha.
There was an area few meters down to have a closer look at the lake but please be very careful because it is steep and slippery. Please do not go down to the lake.
It is said that the unreal blue color of the lake was the result from the copper seeping into the lake (probably due to the quarry activities).
There was still path continuing up to the other checkpoints but because it was starting to rain and we had other stuff to do, we did not explore further up and proceeded to Pontian Happiness Homestay. You can explore all the other checkpoints if you are feeling adventurous but if you just want to get a full view of the lake and snap an Instagrammable photo, the first checkpoint is sufficient.
Epilogue
I heard that there is a hiking trail starting from the Blue Lake to Mount Pulai but I’m not sure where the actual location is. Maybe one day I will return to explore more of this area. Please try to get permission to enter if you are entering any private property.
