Bukit Perahu Peak

Bukit Perahu / St Veronica’s Hill | A Short Hike At Tamparuli

Located right beside the town center of Tamparuli, Bukit Perahu (also known as St Veronica’s Hill due to the church activities at the area) is a popular spot for the nearby residents to do a little hiking activities.

There are two trails heading up to Bukit Perahu, but the one shown above gives more of a hiking ‘feel’. If you look at the map, you’ll find the other Eastern trail but that is mostly a ‘deforestation road’ made for vehicles / machines for construction / quarry works beside the hill.

You may find a suitable spot to park your vehicle nearby, but do not park your car into the starting point because there’s a house there where residents park their vehicles.

The trail is flat at first, and then it’ll be an uphill climb all the way to the top.

Along the trail, you’ll see multiple Christian crosses with narrative signboards related to the Bible.

A rest hut at about ⅔ of the journey to the peak.

A larger structure of the crucifixion (I’ve seen many of these all around the state) near the peak.

It takes about 30 minutes of hiking to reach the peak.

Pretty good view of the area around Tamparuli and you can even see Tuaran. The Tamparuli Bridge can be easily spotted from here.

On the East side, you may be able to see the tall Mount Kinabalu.

*Captain Planet passing by* Remember, please take care of our environment, and please don’t destroy the Nature. Leave no trash behind and take back only photos and memories (and also some trash if you can). Walk on the designated path and stay in the middle as much as you can, so that the exposed soil doesn’t spread/corrode further. BE ONE WITH NATURE *flies away*
