Borneo Paddle Monkeys is the right place to book your SUP experience in Kota Kinabalu. Nick, the owner and paddling expert of Borneo Paddle Monkeys, has been exploring Sabah water for many years on his Stand Up Paddle Board.
Don’t worry if you do not have any experience on paddling. Nick will do a no-nonsense, easy to understand, short briefing on the techniques before heading out to the ocean.
Off to the sea we go!
We had a moment to test and try the techniques taught by Nick, switching from kneeling to standing, before heading further up the ocean.
All photos here were taken by Nick with his action cam, so you can skip bringing out your own camera or phone if you worry that it might get wet.
Sandbar
Our first stop is at a sandbar in the middle of the ocean.
It was high tide but the sandbar underneath was high enough that you could stand on it as if it is shallow. According to Nick, during low tide, the sandbar is above the water and it is even wide enough for you to play a game of soccer.
Finding Nemo
Our next destination was to take a visit to the clownfish colony. We got off our paddle boards, put on our goggles, and observed the clownfish swimming around the sea anemones.
Nemo!
After 2 hours, it’s time for us to head back to the beach.
