Bukit Kembara Mirror Lake

Bukit Kembara Hiking | A Better Mirror Lake + Rain Station Trail

Bukit Kembara is a mini hill with both easy and steep tracks. It is a pretty popular hiking spot during the weekend, as you may find many cars parking along the side of the road. Other than the hiking trails, visitors often come here for the view at Empangan Tasik Hijau. Empangan Tasik Hijau is an old reservoir called Ampang Impounding Reservoir.

Bukit Kembara Trailhead

The trailhead to Bukit Kembara is very easy to locate, just lookup Google Maps: Bukit Kembara Trailhead. The trailhead is just beside the bright red shrine. The only challenge is to find a parking spot nearby during weekends.

Bukit Kembara Hike

The first few minutes in the beginning have a rather steep path, but fret not! It is just for a little while. The path is stair-like and there are ropes for you to hold on to.

Bukit Kembara Hiking Trail

Minutes later there will be a split path. The main path is on the left, which starts with a steeper stair-like path for just a short distance. The path on the right brings you through a more jungle-like trail, slightly longer trail, and quieter as there is less traffic. If you take the less common path to the right, you will come across a small stream, though you might come across some leeches there haha. Both paths bring you to Bukit Kembara peak. I went up through the left, and came down through the right.

Taking the main path on the left. Do not be discouraged by the steepness, as it is just a short one.

In 2-3 minutes, the path will become pretty flat all the way up to Bukit Kembara peak.

Through the main path, another split path appears here. It is easy to identify the main path (to the left) as it is wider and more obvious. The path to the right takes you for a slight detour and joins back at Bukit Kembara peak.

Bukit Kembara Peak

Bukit Kembara Peak

Very soon, we reached the peak of Kembara Hill. There is a pull-up bar and some benches for resting at the peak.

Bukit Kembara Peak 244m

Bukit Kembara – A small hill with a height of 244 meters (800 feet). But don’t stop here, there are more to explore!

We continued our hike into the trail on the other side of the peak, toward the green lake / old dam (Empangan Tasik Hijau).

Right away, there is a split path, both will take you to the green lake but with different difficulty. The trail on the left is easier and shorter, while the trail on the right is a bit longer, steeper, and more slippery.

Both trails are rather steep and would make your heart pump faster when going back up, but the main trail is easier.

Empangan Tasik Hijau

Empangan Tasik Hijau, Green Lake

In about 10-15 minutes, depending on the trail you use, you will reach the green lake from Kembara Hill.

Empangan Tasik Hijau, Bukit Kembara Lake

With the right weather condition, this is much better than Setia Alam Mirror Lake!

Bukit Kembara Mirror Lake, Empangan Tasik Hijau

Look how mirrored it is!

Another highlight here is this hut on the lake. You can walk a full circle around the lake by following the trail by the lake.

The mirror effect disappeared when the wind picked up and the sun reappeared from the clouds.

Empangan Tasik Hijau Pitchers Plants

Take a look around and you may easily notice there are a lot of monkey cups (pitcher plants) by the lake!

We walked clockwise around the lake, there is a split path here. Just follow the lake’s side as the path to the left is a dead end (private property).

Bukit Kembara Hiking Trail

We continued our journey toward the North. Passed by this huge tree with ‘Bukit Kembara A-5’ sign on it.

Bukit Kembara Hiking Guide

Not far from the A-5 sign, there is a split path. The main path is on the right (the lake’s side), which brings you to the mini waterfall and continues the circle around the lake. The trail on the left is a less visited path heading to the rain station, which we will go to after visiting the mini waterfall.

Mini Waterfall (Air Terjun Empangan Tasik Hijau)

Air Terjun Empangan Tasik Hijau Waterfall

At the Northernmost side of the lake circle trail, is a small stream / mini waterfall flowing into the lake.

If you examine closely, the water actually flows through the inside of this fallen log. We stuck leaves on the openings to create makeshift taps for fun.

Rain Station Trail (Stesen Hujan)

Now we head back to the split path here and enter the less travelled trail to the rain station.

Bukit Kembara Rain Station Trail

See this ‘Bukit Kembara C-1’ sign on the tree and you are on the right trail to rain station.

Bukit Kembara Leeches

Immediately we saw the difference of the trail, more secluded, and full of leeches!!

Bukit Kembara Rain Station Trail Hiking Guide

In a few minutes, there is a split path. Go left to continue to the rain station, and go right for a small stream.

The stream in a nice quiet forest environment.

Bukit Kembara Rain Station Trail

Continue on to the main trail. The trail was pretty clear.

Bukit Kembara Rain Station Trail

The environment here was really nice, tall trees, loud primates singing in the distant, and a virgin forest feel.

Bukit Kembara Rain Station, Stesen Hujan

It took us 30 minutes of casual pace from the start of the rain station trail to the rain station. The station marks the end of the trail, it is time to turn back.

Bukit Kembara Leeches, Pacat

Before going back, we all had to check our legs for leeches, and there were many!!

Be ready to receive another dose of heart pumping climb leaving the lake back to Kembara Hill.

After returning to the peak, we tried the other less common path down to the exit (left side of the main exit path from the peak). The trail was less steep and slightly longer than the main one, it felt cooler too. There were more leaves covering the trail and you will pass by a mini stream, where there might be leeches.

Special thanks to Jenny’s hiking gang for the trip together!
